Dáil Eireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament, has just passed one of the most radical hate speech laws in the Western world, a law so radical that it could criminalise material in your “possession” that you have never made public, if that material is deemed by a judge to be liable to incite hatred and you cannot prove it was exclusively for personal use.

Who drafted this dreadful piece of legislation? This is a minefield conceived by thought police to cleanse the masses of their moral turpitude. Kafka, paging Kafka! Please come to the lobby and collect your lost manuscript.
Just how is "gender" defined under Irish law? What about "race"? Will they be passing racial purity definitions? Colour? Which "colours" are protected? What on earth are "sex characteristics"? Is it illegal now to write penis jokes?
Is incitement to violence not already an offence under Irish law? If so, just what are these "protected characteristics" supposed to be protected from? Or is it persons with these "protected characteristics" who are supposed to be protected? Again, from what - hatred?
Irish legislators now want to protect persons with "protected characteristics" from hatred. And what if someone without "protected characteristics" is subject to hatred is that ok? Or is that covered by act two of this absurdist theatre?
I am reeling fom this news of my homeland, what absolute nonsense.
Complete reversal of the principal of "Innocent until proven guilty". -To place the burden of proof of innocence on a defendant is a presumption of guilt. The criminal legal system has crashed!
This bill is a fanatic's charter. The most unhinged ideologues of the left will be able to give full vent to their vindictiveness and nihilism. Those who proposed it and passed it are pure evil.
Beyond news we go towards who has solutions and who's brave enough to voice them. The average punter fails at these hurdles. This bill doesn't help the plight. And we all continue Catch 22.

Thanks David. The exact same global lockstep with censorship as the masks, lockdowns & injections.
And I thought Germany was bad...

Absolutely crazy that only 14 legislators out of 160 legislators voted against this even if many legislators were absent.

Looks like they've been using Orwells' 1984 as a users manual since March 2020.
And taking legal advice from Kafka.

The land of Jonathan Swift has basically outlawed satire, putting comedy clubs out of business.
Yes, David it is thought crime. Ireland doesn't deserve incompetent legislators who don't think through the consequences of the laws they draw up.
