Europe is Swinging Right
In 2016, a majority of British voters voted to exit the European Union, in a political climate saturated with tensions over immigration and an intense public debate about Britain’s strained relationship with the European Union. At that time, it was unclear whether immigration and Euroskeptical sentiment would become defining issues in European politics more broadly.
What has since become clear is that immigration, and to a lesser extent Euro-skepticism, have indeed played a decisive role in shaping the European political landscape since the Brexit vote. The results of elections across Europe since 2016 have confirmed, without a shadow of a doubt, that Europe is swinging right.
