I have ordered the book, which sounds fascinating. Will give feedback when I have read it.

I have read the book and I think it is a really important contribution to political theory. I found it a demanding read, but it made me look at the power wielded by modern governments, particularly the UK one (I live in Cheshire), with new eyes. We had already had Catholic adoption agencies having to close because they refused to consider gay couples as potential adoptive parents, and thus lost government accreditation. But it was the Covid disaster which showed the state at its authoritarian worst. Your book is a timely reminder that there are other, better ways of organising government. It is a cogently and densely argued academic work. I wonder if you would consider presenting your thesis in a more accessible form, so that it could be studied at, say, 6th form level? It deserves to be widely disseminated, and I hope it will be taken up where it will do most good. Many thanks for a magisterial work.

Dear Virginia, I'm so glad you found the book of interest. I have thought about writing a book in a more popular and accessible key, either directly on this topic or on a related topic like the self-governing people. Hopefully I will get to that sooner rather than later! Best wishes, David
